The 4th of July is the day the U.S. celebrates the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Regardless of what your thoughts about the U.S. are at this time, (I’m sure I’m not the first to willingly express displeasure) the meaning of Independence Day can be a time for placing importance on the role of you as the individual in shaping your own identity and destiny through your choices, abilities, and efforts. Here are a few areas you can look at experiencing your renewed freedom:
- Freedom of the judgment of others – Be your Badass Self. Reclaim your sparkle. Stop worrying about what others think of you.
- Freedom of judgment of yourself – Underneath most self-criticism is an impulse for an unmet need to be met. The easiest way to move forward is to develop a healthy connected relationship with your inner feelings. Take the time to ask yourself what you’re feeling and what you need to re-establish your connection to yourself. Then take action on your discoveries.
- Releasing your need for approval – It’s time to speak your truth and claim your desires without regard for who agrees with you. It’s your time to be you. Everyone else is already taken.
- Independence from an unfulfilling relationship – Look for and choose Joy in all areas of your life. If you’re in a relationship that brings you constant displeasure and you’ve tried to resolve your differences, it’s time to let it go. There are other choices for you, whether it be another person or another decision that can change your life experiences.
- Freedom from weight shame – If you are pleased with your weight and health, then embrace it and stop allowing yourself to be judged. On the other hand, if you are evaluating your weight and are unhappy with it, change it! Yes, I know it’s easier said than done. The first step is changing your mind to believe that it is possible and designing the way you want it to happen.
- Letting go of age shame – are you believing you’re too old or buying the lie that your value decreases with age? Please let that go and ask yourself, are you running towards life or towards death? Pick one.
- Independence from health concerns – First of all be your own health advocate. Don’t do everything the doctor says without researching that it will give you the best health outcome. For example, I began noticing my blood pressure increasing. I knew that I personally did not want to take anti-hypertensive medication because of all the side effects that come with them. With research and holistic advice, I began taking herbal supplements, and in 2 weeks my blood pressure was back to normal. Be a victor, not a victim.
